LG VX8550 Chocolate

This minor update to the 8500 is slightly slimmer and lighter, sporting an improved keypad with vibration feedback on the touch keys, plus support for larger memory cards.

Slimmer and sleeker than the original Chocolate (VX8500), the new LG Chocolate (VX8550) has a vibrating touch keypad and a new Navigation Wheel with Trace Motion light. The wheel allows for easy navigation through phone functions, as well as quick and simple functionality while browsing music and videos. Ideal for VCAST Music customers who want a mobile music device, the Chocolate offers advanced multimedia features such as a microSD memory slot that supports up to a 4 GB card, a music player, a powerful speaker for music and dedicated keys for easy access to stored music. The Chocolate is also VCAST-capable and compatible with VZ Navigator, the Verizon's location-based service that provides turn-by-turn directions to more than 14 million destinations and points of interest throughout the U.S.

The LG VX8550 Chocolate has a 1.3-megapixel camera much like that of its predecessor. Camera settings include three different resolutions (1,280×960, 640×480, 320×240), a self-timer, white balance, color effects, night mode, spot or average metering, plus the choice of three shutter sounds (with a silent option). There’s also 2x zoom for use at lower resolutions. The built-in camcorder has two recording times–30 seconds or so for MMS, and an hour or more for as much space as there’s available. The white balance and color effects settings are the same as the still camera. Photo quality was pretty amazing. Images were saturated with color, and objects weren’t blurry. Low-light photos did not fare as well because of the lack of flash. Video quality was all right but pretty grainy and shaky as is to be expected from a camera phone.
