Samsung SPH-i325 Ace

Samsung SPH-i325 Ace has Windows Mobile 6 Standard, QWERTY keyboard, and support for both EVDO and GPRS data networks.

his model from Sprint shares a lot with its GSM-based cousins, including the basic design, look, feel, and even some of the same components. The Ace, also known as the SPH-i325, features a basic slim design, just 0.46 inches thick over most of the casing, with a small bulge on the top rear housing the camera. The entire affair is wrapped in a hematite-grey plastic, prominently branded with the Sprint logo.

This cousin of the i320 supports both domestic CDMA networks and overseas GSM networks. Key features include Windows Mobile 6 Standard, QWERTY keyboard, and support for both EVDO and GPRS data networks. Other features include stereo Bluetooth, memory card slot, and a 1.3 megapixel camera with video capture.

Like the i320 before it, Samsung's new Ace for Sprint sports a very familiar QWERTY equipped block form factor. The device is taller than similar Samsung handsets, but otherwise has typical dimensions of 118mm x 59mm x 12mm (4.6" x 2.3" x .5"), though it has a 4mm bulge where the camera is located. This makes the Ace comfortable to hold and use for phone conversations, but perhaps a we bit top heavy for some when using the QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard itself, taken almost directly from the SGH-i320, has dual sided keys that are fairly large and very easy to locate by touch alone. The design of the Ace's keyboard is far superior to that of either generation of the Samsung BlackJack, even if it is a millimeter or two narrower.

Its combination of technologies makes it a good choice for pond-hopping business users who need email access, as well as light users of all stripes, though some of its limitations may frustrate those looking for a heavy multimedia phone. But if you want high speed Internet and a stylish build, and don't need more than 2 GB of memory, then the Ace is a fine machine.
