Follow these tips if you have trouble charging iPod or connecting it to your computer or if you receive an alert that states: "A HI-SPEED USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB hub".
- It's best to connect your iPod or iPod mini directly to your computer's Hi-Speed USB 2.0 or FireWire (IEEE 1394) port. Check here for information on Mac OS X computers using USB 2.0. Avoid connecting it to a hub or another device that is connected to the computer.
- If you connect iPod or iPod mini through a hub, make sure it is a powered hub. Important: A USB keyboard acts like a hub, but is not powered.
- If you are using a Hi-Speed USB or FireWire hub and you are not sure if it's powered, check with the manufacturer.
- The FireWire ports on some Windows-compatible computers may not be powered, which means they can't charge iPod or iPod mini. A port that only accepts a 4-pin cable is not powered.
- If you experience any issues using the ports on the front of the computer then try using the Hi-Speed USB ports on the back of your Windows-compatible desktop computer.
- Using the cable that came with the iPod, connect it directly to the iPod Power Adapter.
