Here's How:
First, you need to prepare your computer. To do this, we will need to make sure your computer's Bluetooth is enabled. Follow your computer manufacturer's instructions to make sure your Bluetooth is turned on and active. Once your Bluetooth is enabled, we need to configure a Virtual Serial Port. Each PC is different again there, but generally it can be configured in your computer's Bluetooth manager application which should be installed with your Bluetooth device.
Once that is done, you're ready to set up your Treo 650 for Bluetooth sync, as well as connect it to your computer for anything else that can be done with a wired connection. Press the Applications button and launch the Bluetooth application.
Figure 1:
Select On for the device and pick a name. It can be any name, it does not have to be the Hotsync user name. Click the Setup Devices in the lower left hand corner, then click the Trusted Devices button to set up your device.
Let your Treo 650 discover nearby Bluetooth devices. If your computer's Bluetooth is active, and the Bluetooth on your Treo 650 is turned on, it will appear on a pick list. Pick your computer from the list of devices and click ok. It should ask for an authentication code. Enter any you like. Once you do that it will ask the same on your computer. Enter the same code and your devices are now paired and ready to set up Hotsync.
Figure 3:
Go back into Setup Devices and select Hotsync Setup. Follow the onscreen instructions and you will create a Trusted Pair between your Treo 650 and your computer. Once this is complete, close the Bluetooth application by hitting your Applications key.
Figure 4:
On your PC, click the Hotsync icon in the system tray, near the clock on the lower right. From the menu that pops up, click Setup. In the window that pops up, select the Local tab.
Figure 5:
From the Serial Port menu, click the Virtual Serial Port you created and click OK. Go back and click the Hotsync icon in the taskbar again and make sure Local is checked.
You will then be prompted to launch a Hotsync operation. The Hotsync on your Treo 650 will be automatically configured to connect to the PC via Bluetooth.
Figure 6:
Your Hotsync should proceed normally. Note that this will not be as fast as a USB connection, as virtual serial ports are still limited in speed. However it should be sufficient speed for Hotsyncing when you are not moving large files and installing applications. This connection also works as a straight wired connection as well! For all intensive purposes, Bluetooth replaces your wires.
Tips:
- Set up your PC then your Treo, it goes faster.
- Don't Hotsync large amounts of data, keep it to calendars, contacts and maybe email.
- Be patient. It will not be USB speed.
- Wireless can cause overhead and slow down the Hotsync. Beware of phones and other wireless devices.
