To conserve battery use, your iPod may go into a power-saving mode after a period of inactivity. Depending on your iPod model and the duration of inactivity, your iPod will go into sleep, deep sleep, or hibernation mode.
iPod Sleep Mode After a few minutes of inactivity, your iPod may go into sleep mode (the same as if you turn off your iPod by pressing and holding the Play/Pause button).
To awaken your iPod from sleep mode:
- Press any button
iPod Deep Sleep Mode After 36 hours of sleep mode, some iPod models go into deep sleep mode. Deep sleep mode takes more time to awaken than sleep mode. Deep sleep mode is used by early model iPods (dock connector, click wheel, iPod Photo) and iPod mini.
To awaken your iPod from deep sleep mode:
- Press any button
To awaken your iPod mini from deep sleep mode:
- Press the Select button
iPod Hibernation After 14 hours of inactivity, some later iPod models go into hibernation.
This allows the iPod to conserve battery power but maintain and resume activity as when it was last used. Hibernation is used by iPod nano and iPod (5th generation).
To awaken your iPod from hibernation mode:
- Press any button
